ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP 2023
FIELD & 800m DATE: Thursday 31st August (W7)
TRACK & 1500m DATE: Friday 1st September (W7)
VENUE: Campbelltown Athletics Centre – The Pembroke Rd carpark will be for staff ONLY. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the bottom gate at the athletics centre will not be open for pedestrian access. As such, parents/carers are to enter the venue via the gates on Pembroke Road (next to the staff carpark). Parents/carers are to park at Leumeah Station P1 & Leumeah Station P2 and walk to the entrance. We anticipate this will take longer than usual, so please accommodate accordingly.
CHAMPIONSHIP START TIMES: Team officials MUST meet with the convenors at 8.45 am for the first day of the championship. The first event on day 1 will commence at 9.00 am sharp. Day 2 of the championship will begin with marshalling the 1500m at 8am, Please allow adequate time for parking. It is vital that children are on time, especially if they are competing in the first event. We will not wait for competitors who are late.
PROTESTS: Protests must be lodged in writing within 20 minutes of the conclusion of the event and must only be submitted by the team manager, to an organising convener.
MARSHALLING: Competitors must report to marshals immediately after the first call.
FINALISTS:
1. 100m and 200m – 1st in each heat and next fastest times will contest the final.
2. Relays will be straight finals
3. Long Jump, Discus and Shot Put – the leading 8 qualifiers after 3 attempts will have an additional
attempt. The winner will be decided on their overall best jump or throw.
4. 800 & 1500 metres will be a straight final.
5. High Jump – 3 attempts at each height until eliminated.
SPIKES: These will not be allowed in the 800 or 1500 metres. Spikes worn in sprints and jumps MUST be taken off immediately after the event is completed, before leaving the finish area. Failure to comply with this may result in disqualification. No bare feet on the track. Spikes and starting blocks are optional.
STARTING ORDERS: Competitors must stand behind the mark until called up by the starter. Starters orders will be : “On your mark …. set ….”then the gun/buzzer.
COACHING: Parents, coaches and unauthorised persons are not allowed on the ground. Once competitors are in the hands of officials controlling the event, they shall not receive any coaching or advice. Children who receive coaching or advice at this time may be subject to disqualification at the discretion of the referee. Bottles taken onto the track may only contain water.
